Q & A
Corten steel is a durable material that is also maintenance-free. These screen walls achieve a beautiful deep reddish brown color from its copper when exposed to the elements. Changing weather changes its surface from the usual color of steel to over time achieving a thin protective reddish-brown rust layer.
It is an oxidation process of the steel surface that starts with the help of weather and wind. This process eventually causes corrosion of the steel to stop. The rust layer that forms thus protects this company sign and adheres to the surface of the steel, which prevents moisture from penetrating. The protective patina prevents steels from corroding, does not require painting and does not damage the strength of the steel. This is a durable variant that will be a cherished feature to admire for many years!
We try to ensure the steel walls have a rusty finish when we deliver to you. There are ways to speed up the process. You can mix a little ordinary table salt with water (about 2-4 tablespoons / liter of water). Spray on the mixture using a regular flower sprayer. Leave overnight and then wash off with clean water a few times to remove the salt residue. The more times you soak the steel and let it dry, the faster you get a nicely rusted surface.
If you need a metal privacy screens, a iron fence or a modern pergola without a roof, this is easy. Feel free to use our Corten posts that are available in two lengths (1.09 meters / 1.79 meters) and made of 3 mm thick Corten. The posts, which consist of 3.5 x 3.5 cm square pipes in Corten, have holes so that you can fit it to the screens we have that have holes. If you do not want holes in your steel wall, you can weld the posts directly to the panel. Alternatively, you buy the steel wall that already have welded posts for a cleaner impression.
Posts including feet are available as single or double if you want to install several screens in a row. That if you install wind protection, iron fence, privacy protection or if you want to build a pergola. Feel free to watch our instructional video regarding tips on how to install our Corten posts. You cast embedment pipes in the ground and then easily thread over the panels.
If you want to build a modern pergola with a roof, this works great with our panels that have holes. These are wider than others on the market which gives a stylish impression. To mount these panels, you should dig a big hole. That to get down to frost-free level (about 80-100 cm deep). You can either cast it yourself or set up ready-made pole shoes. Put macadam in the bottom of the hole as a drainage to prevent frost heaving.
You can either build pillars for our modern pergola yourself or buy ready-made. Best is to use pressure-treated wood. The strongest variant you often find at your hardware stores is 95×95 mm. However, you can easily make your own pillars by adding two dimensions together. If you add two 45×145 mm joists together with two 45×45, you get, for example, a 135×145 mm pillar.
The basic rule is that the dimensions of the pillars must harmonize with the beams to give an aesthetically pleasing impression. Just make sure your anchor it and use dimensions suitable for the columns you create.
You tie the pillars and beams together and attach your panels to them. However, make sure you tie the whole structure well together. You need to add ribs above and between the pillars and beams to do so. When the wooden construction is ready, you easily mount your screens for your pergola to the structure.
